The British School, founded in 1924, is a private school located in the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The educational philosophy and practice is primarily British in nature with international and Brazilian elements incorporated where appropriate.
Nearing the end of 2016, The Creative Donut was contacted to design and build a website for the school’s international education conference in April 2017. Branding, Web design and Development were all within our remit.
As usual with branding, web design & development projects, The Creative Donut likes to start with logo and color palette design.
Although The British School is very traditional with the colonial colors, the client was keen to create a modern website and brand for the conference. The challenge was to create a modern style brand that aligned itself with the branding of the school. We produced many different logos and color palettes. We decided to go with a softer red and a lighter blue for the logo, with varying degrees of the colors for the website. However because the blue/red contrast is so impactful, it was decided that we would focus on the blue hues, using red to occasionally highlight.
The logo that was selected and refined was a simple typography style logo. It uses a thick font which created space for us to create a clipping mask in the shape of Pão de Açúcar / Sugar Loaf Mountain.
With an events website its ALL about that one special button – Book Now, Register Here, Buy Ticket. Whatever you call it, that call-to-action is the focus. Everything else is window dressing used to inform the visitor. The layout of The British School Conference performs in this respect. You are never more than one click away from purchasing a ticket.
At The Creative Donut, this is what we mean by Customer Centric Design. We focus on what the visitor needs in order to progress through the sales cycle to become a paying customer. The layout includes features that are designed to inform but not overload. Thus once the visitor has enough information to click that button, they can, without having to skim through more and more content. The web design features:

Countdown timer to induce a sense of urgency
High resolution backgrounds and gallery
One of the limitations we faced in this project was the Brazilian market for online payment portals that are based in-country with the ability to take international and national payments, that don’t charge crazy fees. The solution was found by combining Event Management Platform Event Espresso & the Beta version of Stripe (in Brazil). Integrating this wth Sched Management system allows The British School, Rio to create any sort of event they want, accept payment (with minimal fees) and then have the attendees register for the sessions they wish to attend. This gives the team oversight of sales, management and attendees on the day. All this wrapped up into a WordPress system they can reuse in future with minimal hassle.
