Based in Reading, Berkshire, Training For Peace was started in 2008 by Selena Larsen. The company runs workshops on topics from citizenship and leadership, to friendship issues and challenging religious divides. Workshops are run with an emphasis on experiential learning – learning through doing – and involve drama, games, discussion, personal reflection and sharing, and conflict theory.
The Creative Donut undertook the branding, web design and website development. In addition we launched the site via an email campaign aimed at local schools and youth groups.
This was a really interesting project to work on. The client was very open to exploring ideas regarding colors, layouts and branding. The remit was to create something friendly & approachable without losing professionalism.
We started with brand creation, where we used a 2 color gradient. Using blue to represent professionalism, trustworthiness & patience. And green to denote balance and harmony.
“Emphasis On Experimental Learning
To create a friendly and informative environment, akin to the workshops Selena teaches. The web design uses white space, light colors and lots of happy smiling faces.
What was key for us here was not to over-produce. The client didn’t need anything other than a landing page (with a few explanatory sections). It was more important for us to create a vibe of approachability. To inform enough without overwhelming the visitor with information. With the ultimate goal of having them contact the client.
Many lessons were learned during this project. Working with a client that was unsure of what they required and the best tools to use, helped us understand a little more about how web design is viewed from the client-side. Guiding the client through the design and development process proved to be very beneficial to their decision making with the milestone submissions.
