Vaessen Walker is a custom jewellery design studio based in Reading, Berkshire. Their current collections feature Fairtrade gold and recycled silver. Led by Designer Louise VW, VAESSEN WALKER has become synonymous with handcrafted & innovative designs that express themes of minimal aesthetics. Pushing the boundaries of processes & techniques.
In mid 2016, The Creative Donut was asked to help the new design studio brand their business and undertake web design and development of the companies first website.
The project for Vaessen Walker was a full package of branding, web design, website development and stationary design. Obviously the best place to start was the logo and font.
Louise as a fellow creative already had a good idea of what she wanted as a logo. She provided us with a sketch from which we used Photoshop to create a hi-resolution vector. The logo is a concept outline of VW and is made up of 2 triangles. We then went through a process of using a clipping mask to set different backgrounds, colors & gradients to the logo.
Due to the lead in time taken to produce a full jewellery collection, we focused on creating the stationary and developing the layout of the website. This normally wouldn’t be a limitation but as you can see from the end product the site focuses purely and simply on the collection. For this reason the photography was very important to get perfect.
For the video & photography we worked hand-in-hand with the media genius and long-time friend, Rob Ward. As a team we discussed the direction and colors for the site photography and video. But Rob was the true master and guided us towards an amazing result! Rob did a wonderful job and we look forward to working together on more projects.
In order to overcome the limitation of the photography coming last we used stock photos to develop the frame and functions of the website. We focused on creating a user experience that was impactful and made no apologies for showing the collection front and centre
The layout is simple but elegant. Displaying the amazing photos of Vaessen Walker’s handmade jewellery. We also wanted to include quotes that inspired Louise, newsletter sign-ups and social links, as well as linking to the full video.
The client was very happy with the “final” product. I say “final” because a portfolio site is always evolving. From experience we know that with every new collection different inspiration always comes to life. The build displays the collection in fantastic detail with an aim to WOW! We lead the visitor through a showcase of Vaessen Walkers creations with the goal of creating an interest in contacting for a consultation.
This was a great project for us, working with other creatives to produce a very conceptual website was fantastic.
“Highly recommend Sam and his team. He totally took on the brief, helped find contacts for filming and photography and produced a beautiful site for us. Sam also allowed us time to develop the site to create something truly gorgeous – he was really patience and always encouraging with creative ideas. We’re absolutely thrilled with the end result.”
